About Christine

Christine A. SchellerIf you’re visiting my website for the first time, you’d probably like to know more about me. First and foremost, I’m a storyteller. I mainly do this with words, but sometimes I do it with pictures. For more than a decade, I’ve told stories as a freelance journalist and essayist. For the past 4 years, I’ve also been telling a compelling story about cross-cultural dialogue for the world’s largest science membership organization. Before that I helped national religious leaders tell their stories. I got my start as a research assistant on a public television show. Here’s a snapshot of what my storytelling career has looked like.

In my current position as a senior communications manager at an international science organization, I oversee communication and public engagement efforts for a program focused on improving conversation between scientific and religious communities.  As the first person to hold this position, I

  • Developed and implemented comprehensive communications strategy
  • Researched and wrote grant proposals leading to successful awards, including a multimillion award
  • Developed and administer a project and award contest that provides science enrichment for a select pool of journalists who cover spiritual life in America
  • Serve as Project Manager and producer for an educational video series featuring elite scientists from Harvard, the Smithsonian, NASA, the Vatican Observatory, and more
  • Initiated and drove brand redesign and implemented highly effective promotional strategy that exponentially increased public awareness of our program
  • Manage four program websites and all media content — including print, web, video, and photography
  • Manage all aspects of vendor relations, including recruitment, contracts, budgets, project management
  • Manage events from conception to completion, including speaker, participant, and vendor recruitment, promotions, on-site management, post-event reporting
  • Engage national and local media in media relations function, leading to national coverage of program at The Washington Post, PBS, Religion News Service, and more
  • Supervise and mentors program interns

As senior editor at a non-denominational publishing house, I assisted national leaders in delivering their messages to a network of over 1000 churches, producing more than a dozen best-selling books and booklets. In this role, I collaborated on all aspects of book production from conception to editing, design, and marketing; ghost-wrote articles and books; oversaw the work of junior editors; created editorial procedures; and, provided author support.

As an award-winning writer, I am trusted by numerous media outlets to fairly and accurately report on highly sensitive issues at the intersection of religion and public life, and to report on and interview high-profile subjects.

As News and Religion editor at UrbanFaith.com, I helped produce an award-winning website geared toward a multi-racial Christian audience. As a Contributing Editor at TheHighCalling.org, I conducted numerous high-profile interviews and collaborated with Laity Leadership Institute Fellows on articles at the crossroads of faith and work. As a longtime contributor to Christianity Today and other faith outlets, I am known for producing high impact narrative journalism. I was trained at the Rutgers University School of Communication and Information (SCIL) and graduated summa cum laude in journalism. I interned with Richard D. Heffner on one of the country’s longest running public television shows, “The Open Mind.”

Personal Interests

Although I’ve enjoyed the freedom to focus on many of my passions through my freelance work, I also fund raise and advocate for a variety of causes, including suicide prevention, mental health parity, neurofibromatosis research, poverty alleviation, educational opportunity, and racial justice. In 2016, my family and I launched the Black Friday College Fund with friends of my late son Gabriel Scheller. To nourish my own soul, I attend church, run, read, and make art. Wherever I am and whatever I’m doing, I endeavor to live life to the fullest and to do so with joy.
